A technical tour de force, artistry and character focus that reinvents tired tropes and realigns what one would come to expect from a Samurai show, particularly one on revenge.  Blue Eye Samurai is brutal, stylish, devastating, imaginative, breathtaking and rich with emotion. This is especially refreshing for anyone looking for strong leading female characters given the breadth, weight and depth they deserve. Non-gender conforming yet totally honest and critical about history’s patriarchal state. Exploring sex, gender and sexuality in multifaceted ways that expand the canvas of the setting and provide the brushstrokes that shape these complex, flawed and hurting group of characters. One of the most gracefully delivered shows of the decade. It has all the makings of a masterpiece.  There’s clear homages to Mulan, Kill Bull, Akira Kurosawa films and with a similar 2D/3D hybrid style of animation to Spider-Verse and Arcane. Viewers can expect a treat to their eyes and end up finding themselves thoroughly invested in the nuanced story and cast through profound visual storytelling, earnest themes executed with confidence and passionately violent action. Season 2 can’t come soon enough.
