Someone inject this show into my fucking veins please, because I'm LOVING this. It's just so damn addicting and entertaining, I seriously can't remember the last time I felt THIS engaged and engrossed into a show. It was probably Dark, to be honest, and look how that turned out. There's just so much to love here already, I cannot believe that people say these are some of the worst episodes of the show, because if that's true, this is gonna be a lock for my T5 EASILY. Also for everyone who's gonna scream at me in the comments for watching this, 1. Fuck off, I don't need the negativity. 2. I wasn't even going to, but my mum suggested it today so I thought, fuck it, why not? 3. Did I say fuck off? I don't wanna beat around the bush though because I have quite a bit to talk about, so let's get into it. 

First off, I gotta talk about the humour. I genuinely can't think of a show that has made me laugh harder and as often as this one does, not even sitcoms. I mean, seriously, it's just so lighthearted and enjoyable, and that's a large part of the reason this shit is so enjoyable, because I can actually just sit down and have a good time with it, rather than trying to analyse and scrutinise every little detail for writing aspects. Every character, intentional or not, has made me laugh so far, but the standout is Roman, by a fucking mile. Dude is just hilarious, straight up. Every time that motherfucker opens his mouth, it's just some dumb shit that cracks me up every. single. time. And I love it!

Next, I wanna talk about the familial dynamic. I genuinely don't think I've ever seen a more accurate portrayal of a family in television, ever. Every moment, every line just feels so real and genuine, it's amazing. The childish squabbling between Roman and Shiv, two heavily spoiled people, didn't feel forced at all, just because of how petty and annoying they are. And somehow, I mean this in a good way. Every character is so disgusting, so awful as a person, and that's what makes them so likeable. They're just pieces of shit being shitty to everyone, including each other, and it's endlessly entertaining. But I gotta say, the actual bond between the family is consistently being developed well, jokes aside. Everyone's relationship with every other character is just so interesting and riveting, because these early dynamics help to shape the character foundations upon which the show will most likely build on later. I'll run through the characterised traits I picked up now: Roman - very much a free spirit, witty, spoiled rotten. Shiv - determined, aggressive, single-minded. Kendall - troubled, people-pleaser, agreeable. This show has been amazing at establishing these traits so explicitly through the writing (and the acting to be fair, but I'll chat about that in a sec) that it wasn't at all hard to pick them out.

Next, I wanna talk about Kendall. I'm honestly super surprised by him, he's been a HUGE standout so far! I was worried going into this show that I wouldn't like him as much as others, but I couldn't have been more wrong. Jeremy Strong's compelling performance is intoxicating, and just so realistic that it constantly has me in awe of the naturalism he is able to convey. Kendall's conflicts and thoughts are very well communicated by Strong, also, specifically that 'troubled' look he has about him that I mentioned earlier. And, again, like I said earlier, his dynamics with the other cast members are awesome so far, specifically his sibling dynamic, again, partially because of the authenticity in its portrayal.

And back to that acting point, just, wow. This show is a prime example of the fact that you don't have to scream or cry or shout to have something be well acted, it just has to feel real. That' all acting is - pretending to be real. And this show fucking EXCELS in that department. The acting, in conjunction with the camera movements and visual work/cinematography, makes the show feel like a real life scenario that I somehow got footage from, and it's just amazing. I feel repetitive, but the way this genuine tone and feel is presented is just stellar. The camera zooms, the casual swearing, it all ties into this realistic web of narratives the writers are beautifully spinning. Just fucking amazing stuff really.

And my last point is on the fact that this is a bottle episode. Seriously ballsy of a show to attempt that kind of concept in just the SECOND episode, hell, it took Mr. Robot four and a half SEASONS. But they pulled it off. The hospital being the epicentre of all the drama this episode allowed us to really hone in on the dynamics and conflicts plaguing the Roys, rather than us jumping around from place to place without really establishing much (**cough cough Leftovers cough cough**). It was a very intelligent writing move in my eyes, because now I feel like a have a real grip and understanding of these characters, their qualities, their idiosyncrasies, I feel like I know them personally, goddamn it. I'm just in shock honestly that this show is already this strong, this is gonna be something great. I just know it.

Overall, a very very strong follow up to an already strong pilot, and something that absolutely excites me given the ending of Logan waking up, especially now that we're armed with the knowledge that the company is drowning in debt; I just feel like all hell's about to break loose, and I'm here for it.
