This show kinda feels like a miracle. We barely get new IPs in the genre space, even less given big budgets to fulfill their ambitions, even less then that on streaming service that people actually use regularly. For that alone Renegade Nell should be applauded. It's even better that this show is so much fun and filled with so much heart. Bafta winner Sally Wainwright has created a near perfect family blockbuster that has all that disney charm that is missing from most Disney projects. The cast is uniformly good, the highlights being Louisa Harland as our protagonist Nell who is so charming you almost forget the anger boiling under the surface till it comes out. And Alice Kermelberg as Sophia who perfectly balances a need for independence not given to her as a woman and her deep love for the family who keep her from getting it. Renegade Nell is about how women have to fight for the lives they want in a society that even ruled by a woman fights there independence at all turns. This might sound like a fo complaint but my biggest problem is that there isn't more. But the shows packing slips towards the end and has to rely on contrivence to get the pieces in place for the finale. And on a broader complaint that this show would have thrived with a 22 ep season. Giving more time to let the premise be and not feel so Lazer focused on plot. It could have been compared to Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
