ATLA is one of the most impactful shows that have inspired a plethora of books, tv shows, anime/Western animation stories that we have right now. The novel, Sword of Kaigen by ML Wang, The Broken earth trilogy by NK Jemisin, and even highlights of fighting styles within the anime, Ninja Kamui, are a few examples of Avatar’s influence! I’m rewatching this series given the recent live adaption TV show, and I was a bit removed from the entire story since it’s been almost a DECADE since I’ve watched it. Afterwards I plan on watching Legend of Korra for the first time because it gets a crazy amount of hate, so I want to see what folks yap about lmfao. But I’m sure we are all familiar with the story so I’ll keep my review brief: it’s really great, and watching the story as an adult I can see themes of neocolonialism, xenophobia, imperialism, and war as deployed by the Fire Nation headed by Fire Lord Ozai, pervasive throughout the entire series. 10/10.
