Twin peaks season 1,2 and 3 review The return —————— Twin peaks the return is David lynch at his best, I’ve watched a good bit of his movies and short films and I can certainly say from what I’ve seen this is his best. It’s all the best parts of his films and twin peaks added into one, with very little to complain about. Season 3 wipes season 1 and 2 out of the park the only thing that comes close is fire walk wit me and season 2 with out the filler which I would say is on par. The final episode stretch was a fantastic ride and I regret not watching them in one stretch. The return has one of the best narratives/ stories I’ve seen which is super hooking and engaging the only issue is that the pacing at times is a little off but even then the goods over weight the bad. Part 17 and 18 are so well directed they are perfect and definitely have some of the highlights of the show like cooper saving Laura or even dale coming back to twin peaks. The writing and dialogue are fantastic and the actors (most of the time ) really excel and bring the show out even more , the emotions feel real and it all really just adds to the shows enjoyability. The final episode is amazing and I feel underrated I would go as to say it’s as good as part 17 , the ending is great and leaves you with so many questions but also answers , is this a sad ending or a happy one it’s kinda up to you to decide, is this are dale cooper ? Is this are time line ? The answers are given to these questions but never out right said making the audience have to think and question everything they see. The finale sequence was kinda sad but concluded perfectly leaving what happens next to the audience as there is no real answer to twin peaks the beauty of it is that it’s left unanswered and for the audience to think and make theories for it’s all subjective and that adds to the art of it. On a technical standpoint this season is fantastic the camera work is some of if not the best I’ve seen and the composition of each shot gives us meaningful insights and messages, you can pause on many frames and it will give us imagery or just a very good shot. The colour palette aswell is great and kinda has the same as the original jus a little different which is like the return it’s self it’s like twin peaks but somethings off about it and it really pays to its benefit. The characters and dynamics and beautiful and feel fully fleshed out snd developed im a absolute sucker for bobs of screen character development becoming a cop and how each character has grown up , changed and learned from there past experiences. Each character feels amazing and adds their own uniqueness to an already unique well established show. My only down side is I feel there’s something wrong with audrie it feels like the actor doesn’t want to be there she feels bored and jus clocking in and out as if she was supposed to be in the story more but that’s jus my opinion. Dale cooper is fantastic it’s nice to see a just a good guy as a protagonist once in a while , he’s just pure good with a heart of gold and it’s amazing and the dynamic with Laura is fantastic,and her character is also great , Laura is such a complete complex character and it’s fabulous how it’s put to screen theres still unanswered questions about her like who was at the black lodge first her or cooper, and her character being a character study too on theme likes escapism is so perfect and executed so well . Season 1 and 2 ————————- both seasons, have an unprecedented atmosphere that really brings to life the place of Twin Peaks, this atmosphere is unique, and really brings to life contrast of how the beautiful places and has such cruel people. What like a lot about the show is the subtle contrast in a lot of things even from the intro which is very upbeat. Meanwhile a lot of themes are the show are very dark and stranded in mystery. Also many times lead leaving the viewer to figure out what’s going on and interpret them on their own, also the show consistently has some of the best plot twists I have personally seen used in media . This is also brought out by how good the antagonist of the show, even though we see little of Bob, we feel them a lot of the time due to the horrific nature of his crimes . David Lynch does not hold our hand and let us explore the world for ourselves and make our own judgement and opinion in typical lynch style. He so don’t hold back on what Bob is willing to do showing us the full evils of humans Also, even the sub plots are interesting and really go deep into the characters and the character studies of the mini beautifully written characters across the show. Even for example, someone like Bob, who starts off as a dick head sports player across the seasons, really grows and changes and become more mature. The use of colour in the show some of the best I’ve seen and I think that comes down to the quality of the writing if as a colour shown on screen and it emphasised it’s normally for a very strong reason/message and I think that is what speaks to why Twin Peaks are so great the little things and moments and writing that build up for later events. The protagonist is amazing, normally characters like Cooper are boring due to their one dimensional, writing and lack of themes and complexity due to the fact that very straight going and are you textbook definition of a Boy Scout, but David Lynch does not fail here. In fact he exceeds characters that way more “complex” how does this is by using the characters around him to mould it and influence some of his actions while also influencing their for the better he is the light of the show and the lighting shows shows us this. My theory on Bob is that he chooses a male host, and from there, he laws them to the black cabin, using one of the victims family members “killing them” and then offering the male victim a deal, he will not kill them and take them back to earth ( the female victim ) in exchange for the males soul. With the male soul, he tends to attack the hosts, female family member and carry on his killing.leaving the real soul in the cabin using there doppelgänger at times . -Season 1- 8/10 -Season 2 -10/10 (excluding filler ) -Season 2 including filler -7/10 -Season 3- 10/10 -Twin peaks top 10 in media - 5th fav tv protag -best female character - best character study - top 1 story/ narrative 10/10 strongly recommended
