Both endings are phenomenal
An obvious influence on Bocchi and other musical anime. K-ON stands tall in not only in it’s killer soundtrack, overall love of rock music but on how well-developed it’s 5 mains are. Never once do you feel the cast is acting out of character. The show established these foundations early on and goes in every direction with them, s2 in particular feels like “well, what if we subtracted this element; let’s see what happens then.” The show plot isn’t complex or really complex as a whole. But it’s so detail oriented that it comes across as meticulously planned.
Planned to such an extent that KyoAni love and understanding of visual storytelling seeps through. In the Haruhi Suzamiya pilot, it’s clear the team know what how not to shot a (live action) film. K-ON lands on the other end. The entire shows l. The editing evokes that nature, the shots look like a human stood and composed them, depth of field isn’t visible at times, even the use of color contrast (shot wise) is handled with care to such an extreme. Unironically i’d but as one of the best directed anime alongside Eva and Mono.
I’m not sure what KyoAni was thinking, adapting a lukewarm manga and adding so much extra content with some of their finest animation work. Like the K-ON film doesn’t need to exist, but i’m glad it does cause it further enhances the show.
K-ON is a complete story, but at it’s end I feel saddened that no new content (anime wise) has come out in a decade. I’d love to see what HTT has been up to.
