This is easily one of the greatest seasons of television i’ve ever seen. Everything here was incredible from the dialogue, to the plot, to the acting; just good shit all around.
Rust Cohle is one of the most fascinating television characters i’ve had the pleasure of seeing. His nihilistic view on his existence makes for incredible monologues and conversations with his partner Marty. Thankfully, Rust has a shift in his worldview and acknowledges the presence of good in a world that’s full of darkness.
I’m not entirely sure why I felt so pleasantly surprised by Marty. I suppose it’s since nobody really talks about him since Rust takes most of the spotlight. Regardless, he is an awesome character and a great deuteragonist. The storyline between him and his family was more compelling than the case at certain points.
My favorite aspect of this season has to be the dynamic between Marty and Rust because my goodness, it is phenomenal. Nearly every interaction between these two was either comedic gold or deep as hell. Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson really knocked it out of the park with their performances.
I’ve been watching a lot of peak shit lately with this, Chernobyl and The Return.
