ep. 1-18 are honestly some of the best episodes of the show, period. they are pretty interesting and mix the mythology with the cases of the week better than season 2- and 3 do. this is how Fringe should have been all along.

and then ep. 19 happens. idk what the writers are smoking at this point (probably some lsd like the characters) but they decide to go into a completely different direction. which wouldn't be a problem, normally, but i think the issue here is that they set up the season one way (Peter needs to go back to his "blue" universe), and then find a solution that does not meet the set up in any way (Peter gives up trying to go back bc he finds out that yellow!Olivia can remember him anyway). but like, that's not how storytelling works. for what it's worth, that's not how life works. people are made of their memories and stories, and making new memories with strangers is not the same thing as having your old life back. are you telling me Peter gives up everything he ever knew, including old friends and relatives, because one person remembers who he is? i understand he never had much of a social life anyway, and that Olivia is the love of his life, but what about Walter? he'll never see the Walter he knew ever again and i'm supposed to be okay with that? what about his son? what was that whole storyline even for?

okay i'm ranting. but that's the biggest issue with the season imo. 

techinically-wise, the show is still great. they must have gone crazy with all the body doubles this season and yet the actors, the directors, and editors all did a great job to keep the suspension of disbelief pretty high. not one time didn't i think blue!Olivia and red!Olivia were completely different identities, and the same can be said with all the characters who have a double. 

lastly, i'm not so sure i buy the Observers suddenly being a group of 1984-like fascists, and the William Bell reveal was just plain awful (btw i thought Leonard Nimoy quit acting and that's why we hadn't seen him in 2 years). 

onto the final season that i'm told is the worst so yay!
