"I am mad scientist it’s so cool sonuvabitch" Steins;Gate starts off rather slow, most of the first 12 episode are slice of life episodes from the characters. But this works so damn well because the writing from the characters is simply impeccable, I just loved seeing these characters in their daily routine. The core plot around time travel is also extremely intriguing and it slowly builds up tension. Mayuri is probably my favorite character and episode 21 solidifies that. She is just way too pure for this world and whenever I saw her on screen it always made me smile except for the many many scenes in which I had to watch her suffer. I also really liked her friendship with Okabe. His character is so interesting, his Houhouin Kyouma persona, the origin why Mayuri is Okabe's "Hostage" and why Okabe calls himself a mad scientist and to see how he cares for his friends make him a fantastic character. It took me a while until I started really liking Daru and Kurisu but at the end I really like them, sadly Daru doesn't get much backstory. I don't want to spoil anything, so I won't go into the story too deeply. The many perfectly implemented plot twists and the fantastically written characters make Steins Gate one of my favorite anime.
