SPOILER FREE "Destiny is all" While this phrase probably describes the biggest Element, the Show is going for Ive found myself really conflicted on how to interpret "Destiny" in this Show. The reason Im saying this is that I feel Like the Showrunners themself were Not always 100% sure why they gave this Quote so much weight in the First place. I think the later seasons (s4 and s5) prove this to me. When reviewing this Show I cant really Talk about this Show in general. The reason for this is that after finishing s3, this Show was on the way to become the best medieval Show that has been Put to Screen. While I did only rate Season 1 three Stars, I still feels Like the Season plays an Important Role for the Protagonist Uhtred. The Main critiscism I have with s1 and s2 are that it lacks in being original. With Season 3 this View of Mine completly changed. Now, after finishing the Show It feels Like I was watching two different Shows named the Last Kingdom. One of the goes from s1 to s3 and the other one goes from s4 to s5. The Main reason I think that way is mentioned above. "Destiny is all" is a phrase that felt Like it wants to Go somewhere, especially with Uhtred as the Protagonist. With s4 around the Corner it truly felt Like the Show lost its Ambition for actually developing "Destiny" into a logical direction. After Season 3 "Destiny is all" Just feels Like a Wannabe - Important - Quote that floats in the Air. It feels Like Destiny is not the primary Focus of the Show anymore but they still tried to build Up on it, even tho they clearly abandoned that Idea after Season 3. What Im trying to say Here is that I cant See this as "one big Show". Seasons 1-3 are so much different in pretty much every aspect. They take a vastly different approach to developing the Plot or establishing their themes and I gotta be honest with you: I would take the First three seasons of this Show over the Last two at any day. Im Not saying the later seasons are complete garbage cause they are Not (especially s5 is actually pretty good imo and the ending is fantastic) but when looking at the bigger Picture they Just seem so Out of Place. Not to mention that The Dialogue, Acting and in General the writing quality Takes a huge dump after s3, especially considering the consistency of the Show. Overall I still really enjoyed watching this Show. I think Ive explained myself why I cant Rate this any Higher but I still found it to be a great Journey to follow. I Love the Cast and I Love the Ending but its Just their are too many Things that bother me to Go Higher. Even tho Alfred is one my favourite Characters in TV and s3 is an absolutely amazing Season of Television, Ive gotta consider this as one of the weaker Shows Ive Seen in previous months.
