On paper Succession is a show about a dysfunctional family that run a media company but in reality it’s about corruption of the upper class and the abuse/negligence that comes with it. This is really different from shows that I usually watch and I was never really interested in a drama heavy show until I watched succession. This show has a perfect balance between drama and comedy. This is honestly funnier than a lot of sitcoms I’ve watched and has some of my favourite jokes in tv. But as funny as it is it can switch from having you laugh to watching one of the most intense scenes in tv. Succession has the best score in tv imo, that main theme encapsulates the feeling of the show so well. The cinematography of New York (and other countries/cities they visit) is so beautiful and you know anytime Kendall feels sad your about to see one of the best shot scenes in the show. I would definitely recommend this show to anyone, this is the best thing put on tv in years.

Characters:
In a dialogue heavy show like this one the characters are vital and set the atmosphere for the whole show. They did an amazing job casting these roles, especially Brian Cox. I could not see anyone playing an old rich asshole like he did. The chemistry between these actors was great and it felt like I was watching an actual family. Kendall is such an underrated protagonist, he is an amazing written complex character. Being told from 7 years old that he was going to be the successor to his father put a heavy weight on his shoulders from a young age, all he wanted was to live up to his fathers name. The stress of the job made him fall back into his addiction which obviously make Logan rethink his decision to make him CEO. From there shit just got so bad for Kendall with the car crash and logan holding it over his head. In “This is not for tears” (2x10). Logan tells Kendall he doesn’t have his killer instinct, later on in the episode Kendall fucked Logan over so bad the FBI got involved. In the end he chose his business over his family just like his father and continued the cycle but it didn’t even pay off as his own sister backstabbed him, leaving him with no one. On a less depressing note, Roman is the funniest character in the show, I don’t know how such an unlikable person can be so likeable but that’s just him. Underneath everything though he’s insecure and just wants to be loved by his father (noticing a theme). This leads to him siding with Logan a lot of the time again wanting validation as a good businessman. Despite his father being a prick he really loves him, watching Roman try to read the eulogy at his fathers funeral was so sad and was one on the best scenes in the show. Now for Logan, I hate this man so much but he is a great antagonist. Just a manipulative, corrupt piece of shit. (He was funny sometimes tho) Logan was the reason for his kids being the way they are and it’s sad because the same power struggle will probably continue with his grandkids. In the end his pride killed him, he was too proud to acknowledge that his health was deteriorating and it cost him his life. Some people just aren’t meant to have kids. Shiv was amazing and is one of my favourite female characters in tv. Connor is my president and he was the only sibling to understand that the only way to win Logan’s game is not to play. Tom and Greg will always be my favourite gay couple in tv 💙.

I love this show so much, every season was better than the last imo. I think that it ended perfectly and I’m glad it didn’t go for the conventional route and have Kendall become CEO, even though I wanted him to it wouldn’t feel right because of everything that’s happened over the course of the show.
