I know Phoebe Waller-Bridge walked out on this show early bc of creative differences, but idk I feel her fingerprints all over this. It reminded me a lot of the 1st season of Killing Eve; in the sense that the spy stuff is kept deliberately very vague and the focus is very much on the relationship between the characters, to the point where the spy element almost feels superfluous. The first scene is two “conventional Hollywood” Mr & Mrs Smith characters being killed off (a nod to Brad and Angeline maybe?), and we instead follow the unconventional couple of Donald Glover and Maya Erskine. There definitely some moments that are a bit slow, but the series works thanks to the chemistry between the two leads, the fact that each episode is very different and some really great guest appearances.
