Time (2021)
Two men grappling with life-changing and incredibly arduous circumstances within the prison system while striving to do what's right. Although it's a concise miniseries, it doesn't rely on grandiose monologues or soliloquies. There are moments of slight over-dramatization, yet Sean Bean's and Stephen Graham's performances are remarkably restrained and compelling. Watching the show can be frustrating; there were times I felt compelled to yell at the screen, which might be intentional. It sheds light on the flaws within the prison system, serving as a critique and questioning the true purpose of incarceration. Time is worth watching solely for the outstanding performances. Overall, it's a truly remarkable series, simultaneously condemning and offering a glimmer of hope. Side note: The subplot with Sean Bean's character owing something to the other prisoner left me perplexed. What was the reasoning behind it? Just because he let him punch his hands to gear up for a face-off with a prison bully? Frankly, I found it a bit illogical, especially since it didn't seem like the bully's prison crew was even present at the time, despite him supposedly telling them to stay out of it. Maybe I'm overlooking something, but it didn't quite add up for me.
