1. "Appeal to fans of GOT": What! It's a kids' show that grapples with sensitive and dark topics but does it maturely. They are dark moments but the original writers had humour to balance it. I guess Aang will have to say Dracarys to make Appa fly.
2. "Tone Sokka's sexism." Wow, that's a great one. The writers are trying to be woke and make the original writing lack modernity, but it was 2005 and it was its best. Doing this is such a huge mistake. Sokka's sexism was the thing that made them find Aang in the iceberg. And it complements the worldbuilding of Avatar and society. It makes it seem real and true since sexism exists in the real world. But They are trying to be feminists. Good for you, Netflix. Wonder what they are going to about Master Pakku, who refused to teach Katara waterbending because she's a girl. Or how Sokka became a great leader by learning from the Kyoshi girls.
3. "Showing the genocide of Air Nomads" 💀💀Why? Why? The original didn't, why do they want to? Why does Hollywood love showing violence? With what is happening in the world right now? Netflix is trying to make this their own GOT but it's just disappointing. This is a fucking kids show. One piece might be better than this💀
4. "Aang won't go on adventures": They are missing out on how to explore worldbuilding and express grief. Aang goes on adventures because he's still a child and he is in denial that he might be the last airbender. Sadly, ATLA fans know more than these showrunners and writers. for Christ sake, the elephant koi!
5. Showrunner: “There are certain roles I think that Katara did in the cartoon that we didn’t necessarily also do here,” Kim told the outlet. “I mean, I don’t want to really get into a lot of that, but some gender issues that didn’t quite translate from the cartoon.”
Accurate answer from a Twitter user: Her gender things were literally the north water tribe not allowing women to train in combat bending and focus on healing when she needed combat training, and Sokka’s arc is him growing to accept that women are just as good as men and that he doesn’t need to do everything.”
It's not even out and they are messing up.
