"easiest binge-watch" "This review is only for season 1." Actually, Denji wants nothing more than to live a peaceful life. Unfortunately, he first has to get rid of his gigantic mountain of debt. That’s why, together with his demonic pet, Pochita, he hunts down other demons on behalf of the Yakuza to earn money. But his employer betrays him, and Denji is ambushed. He was supposed to die, but Pochita saves him at the last moment by connecting with the dead body of his master. This not only gives Denji a second chance to live but also the ability to turn parts of his body into chainsaws. As Chainsaw Devil, he can now hunt demons even more effectively. Soon he attracts the attention of a special unit of professional demon hunters who are only too happy to use him and his powers for their own purposes. I've been meaning to watch the series for a long time, and now I've finally got round to it with a friend. What can I say? We binged-watched it completely in one session. The characters are all written in an interesting and likeable way. You really care about their concerns and they quickly grow on you. I saw the great and hilarious German dub, which enhanced the character traits. (Directed by René Dawn-Claude, who also wrote the dialog book.) I can highly recommend this one to anyone who speaks German. Although the premise seems very simple at first glance, there is actually something deep behind it. What Denji really wants, aside from his obsession with touching melons... Well, he actually just wants to belong somewhere and have real connections with people. He had a tough childhood, filled with bad stuff like being abandoned by his dad and stuck with a ton of debt. He had to work as a devil hunter to pay it off and felt used by everyone around him. But when he merged with Pochita, he started to make real friends. As he battles demons and protect others, Denji discovers his desire to create a loving family and to keep them safe. The action and fight scenes are very exciting and bloody. Mappa's animation is once again top notch. (Apart from the justified controversy of the animation studio...) The background music and the sound design of the show are also well done. What I found great too was that each episode has its own outro with different animation and song, which is all perfectly adapted to the respective mood and story. However, the anime still has a lot of room for improvement, especially in terms of content, but that's a good thing, as there are more seasons to come. I have also seen some of the ideas and content of the story in similar productions. The very exaggerated style is probably not for everyone. The anime sometimes goes into ecchi territory with very bloody and sometimes sexual moments. Definitely not something you should watch with your parents...lol Overall, the series is something for people who are interested in shonen anime and are not averse to the somewhat exaggerated and crazy style. I'm really looking forward to the next season. Rating: "hilarious" 4 out of 5 stars
