I was hoping this might be Apple’s answer to Glow. It isn’t. Full of unlikeable characters, including the lead (who I initially sympathised with, but found exasperating by the end). It’s billed as a comedy but isn’t particularly funny, much of the run time focussing on her very serious (and depressing) mental illness. It’s also not particularly dramatic. You wait ages for something to happen and when it does, the credits roll. A good old fashioned cliffhanger. Except when you start the next episode, it doesn’t resolve the scene it left you with, but usually cuts to a few days later when it’s all died down and people can have a chat about it with the benefit of hindsight. Urgh. I got the feeling the writers didn’t really have an overall story they wanted to tell but we’re just making it up from episode to episode. Good characters are introduced that you think will be important - they’re not. It’s like they can’t think what to do with them. Deals are made, and alliances, that are presented as significant, but ultimately aren’t. I was excited after the first few episodes and I made it to the end but it was an effort of will by the end. God I miss Glow.
