I have kind of a love/hate relationship with the Child’s Play franchise, and this TV show is no exception. The dialogue and character writing is objectively kind of bad but I still found myself liking it anyway. It’s stupid, but in a fun kind of way, and in the end I was actually invested in what was going on surprisingly. Fiona Dourif does a terrific job both at reprising her role as Nina and at playing a young Charles Lee Ray in flashbacks. The main cast does a good job too, all the kids feel real enough. I’m glad they didn’t CGI the doll, that would feel sacrilegious at this point in the franchise. I’d say it’s a pretty medium tier Chucky doll, I liked it better than the ones in 3, Curse, and Cult but not as much as 2, Bride, or Seed. Ties with the original maybe. The Chucky TV show is consistently funny, has cool and unique kills, and a semi-engaging plot. I think that’s about all you can expect from this franchise at this point. If you are a fan of the films and somehow haven’t seen this, give it a go. Also, Chucky saying “Pokémon Porn” has not left my mind. Why did that happen. Who wrote that. Why have I not seen anyone bring that up.
