I am so glad I watched this show. It has everything I could want: interesting characters, well-written sci-fi plots, and even allegories about the human condition. It’s a show that doesn’t take itself so seriously all the time and I appreciate that. It could be incredibly camp, but also deep and meaningful. Sure, some of it didn’t age well (and it feels low-budget at times) but when I watch it I feel nostalgic, even when I had never seen it before. It’s comforting and an interesting look back at what television was like in the late 1960s. The only gripe to be had is that the quality of the episodes varies dramatically, with a five-star episode, followed by the worst thing aired on television probably ever, followed by yet another “strange energy invades the ship” episode. But I’ll always remember how I felt watching standouts like “The City on the Edge of Forever” and “Amok Time” for the first time, just to name a few. Those are among the best episodes for any show ever. I love this show very much. Now on to the movies!
