The fact of how short this anime is and how peak it is is crazy 🙏 From the first 14 episodes you'd think it's pretty average anime, but after watching the rest of it, you'll VOLUMENTALLY change your opinion of it. While the first half introduces us to the characters and the world, the second half reveals us to those characters and pretty much explains the crazy and rather complex lore that makes this anime one of the most complex on TV. The main cast including the kids, Misato, Gendo and a few other characters are wonderfully written, especially Shinji, Asuka and Rei who are definitely the best characters in the show. Shinji is a depressed teenager with a tragic past who throughout the anime goes through a difficult journey of changing and loving himself. The conclusion, inner conflict, development and complexity are the best aspects of this character. Asuka is also a depressed teenager who, unlike Shinji, tries not to show it, which makes her seem like an optimistic person at first glance, but when her past is revealed in the second half, where you learn about her relationship with her mother, you will see her from a completely different perspective. Rei is very different from the above characters. When the first 2 characters have depression, Rei literally feels no emotion at all. When you find out the reason for this you will really be shocked. All these 3 characters have a great dynamic between them which improves them even more. Speaking of the plot, I recommend that you make sure to read the explanation of the story because you will understand a lot more things than the first time you watch it. The concept of Adam, Lilith, Eva and all the other angels is written perfectly, making the plot of this anime one of the best oat. The anime has two endings. The first ending is shown in the last episode of the anime in Shinji's mind, which completes his development. The second ending is in the movie. It takes place just during the last 2 episodes of the anime where Shinji's inner conflict is shown. At this time there are just crazy events in the world and the second movie shows the conclusion of the world and the anime story directly. In my opinion both endings are just perfect. (P.S. The movie is divided into 2 parts: alternate episode 25 and episode 26, so I'll include them in my rankings) Evangelion is one of the most unique works of media I've seen and I'm glad it has such popularity because it definitely deserves it.
