Poster for Midnight Mass
Denying grief and redemption through superstition is very human. It takes many forms, but Midnight Mass shines a blood-red light at the American institutions that hold us to our hypocrisy. I loved the atmosphere of this show. The small coastal town is iconic in horror, but it doesn’t stop me from wanting to live there. I have enjoyed all of the Mike Flanagan Netflix limited series, but this one hit my aesthetic the most. Gothic, ponderous of religion, fear by the sea. The writing and premise are perfect. The ending. I loved it. The mythology of addiction and of delusion. It’s a nightmare. Reoccurring. Masterful.
