big-budget soap opera a lot of the times. Although, it does touch on a variety of interesting topics relating to motherhood, class, race, etc. Aside from that, the wlw representation is ok, a downside i felt though is that the first portrayal has a visible power-dynamic which doesn't really sit well with me. The 2nd relationship is more of a younger, coming-of-age pov that follows the age old tragic queer storyline (closeted → outing → being the scapegoat), but it is somewhat understandable and realistic considering the time period and genre (and it will def have homophobic viewers clutching their pearls with mainstream american cinema portraying a coming-of-age queer storyline regardless lol)
