As with 90% of TV, it gets better as it goes on, and I'm glad I gave it a chance past the first couple episodes. Getting the negatives out of the way, it hurts to say that I wasn't really into the setting itself. It's a cool concept, but I felt it was a bit underdeveloped. It was definitely a vehicle for some much more interesting character work, but I am left wishing the vehicle itself was equally intriguing. I wasn't too keen about the rounded art style, but the coloring usually made up for it. Also, the pacing within each episode felt a bit flat. Often, the show would sandwich short bursts of calm moments in between two similarly intense scenes instead of maintaining a sense of urgency throughout. With all that said, the real draw for this show is the characters and the representation, and boy does it deliver. Every character interaction and conflict feels so well-developed and complex. Characters have the maturity to admit to what they did wrong but stand up for what they don't need to apologize for. This show is great at not underestimating the target demographic while also letting their characters have fun. The representation is pretty stellar too, encompassing people of different body types, race, sexuality, and more. Much of it is explicitly stated yet normalized and celebrated very tastefully. Also, Chapter 9 could've easily been a complete disaster, especially so late in the season, but somehow they pull it off gracefully. I gotta commend them for that. Favorite episodes: Chapter 3, 4, and 9
