Hottest take of all: the season that shit the bed. They turn Barry into a caricature; not a real person who can make decisions for himself. Just a psychopathic narcissist who gets himself into quirky situations. All the character arcs fall flat, fail. It seemed like the writers wanted everyone to go dark, and in that, missed the essence of what each character was about. Even Sally Reed, now one of the central characters of the show, was done soooooo dirty. I could not wait for the finale, so the show could finally end. I also know I am in the minority, and other people really seem to enjoy the show, especially the dark turn. Bless you people. What I can say is that the performances are somewhat decent and the direction is actually very inspiring stuff. I am still intrigued to see what Bill Hader can do, but wary of this pessimistic take seeping into his other work.
