I went in Scott Pilgrim Takes Off just expecting another adaptation of the source material with stylish animation , and it’s definitely that for the first 25 minutes , until Scott Pilgrim (bleep)-ing “dies” , and we get a different , but equally awesome story that manages to give the spotlight to Ramona and all the other characters , it’s like the equivalent of Rebuild of Evangelion in the Scott Pilgrim franchise , same thing , but completely different stories This is the biggest surprise of the year for me , while bringing back the entire original cast might have hurt the show since they are not really voice actors and some of the performances were pretty rough , but the fact that these middle-aged guys are all passionate about re-enacting something they took part in 10 years ago is just amazing , I wish more modern remakes or reboots could be like Scott Pilgrim Takes Off , taking the idea of the source material but giving a completely different version of it , this show makes me very happy
