I’ve been so bad about posting reviews here, I finished Andor ages ago and forgot to log it and it just snowballed from there. I finished My Life as a Teenage Robot a while ago but I’m just going to start from here and not log the shows I’ve missed since the. While it’s not the funniest Nicktoon, or the most engaging plot-wise, My Life as a Teenage Robot stands out with its unique sense of style and vibrant cast of memorable characters. I don’t mean to knock it, it’s humor is still very funny and the plot has a lot of great story beats, too. The show balances between them very well, and because of that it never leans hard into either direction. Jenny is one of my favorite characters from any piece of media, she kicks so much ass but she’s also caring and a good person, I felt very invested in her story throughout whether her struggles were giant aliens or her own social anxiety. Her design is also phenomenal, simple to draw yet unique enough to stand out. The whole art style is gorgeous, it really helps sell the retro-futurism setting of the show. Nora has to be a top 10 worst cartoon mom, though. I do like how their relationship grows and develops throughout the series, but it doesn’t really make up for how she treats Jenny through most of the show and I hate how she always calls Jenny XJ9 even in the later episodes, a name she clearly hates and repeatedly asks not to be called. It’s something I wish they would’ve addressed if they were trying to show their relationship change. I’m really hoping for a revival, I really feel like Nick underestimated how beloved of a character Jenny is and how fond people are of this show in general until the undying support for her to join Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. Since then, they’ve really been taking advantage of it with merch and adding her to other games, so fingers crossed. If not a new season, I’d still love for her to get a Netflix movie like other Nicktoons have got. As it stands, this is my 3rd favorite Nicktoon. My current ranking is: 1.
