Everything is answered. Nothing is answered. Then it ends, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s no stretch to say that this is one of the most flawless concluding seasons ever, and one of the only seasons in general where I can’t think of a single complaint.
It’s short and leaves plenty of loose ends, but that’s because it cut out all the fluff and irrelevant plots to focus on the one and only thing that ever mattered, Kevin and Nora. Even when neither of them are on screen at all, every moment is in service to their story.
The two of them and their beautiful dynamic is the axis this season rotates on, and that’s what makes it feel so cohesive and laser-focused. So much bizarre shit happens: there is a sex yacht filled with lion furries, world-ending floods, penis identification scanners, international assassins, vaporization chambers, and even Australia, yet it all feels right. Off the charts creativity and an effortlessly talented writing staff made one of the most theoretically insane and even stupid sounding seasons feel so raw and real. Best of all, when all that is said and done, it concludes with the show in its most stripped-back and simple state, a love story between a man and a woman in a small-town, what the show always secretly was.
If I haven’t made it clear enough, this season is a masterpiece, and one I’ll hold close to my heart for a long time. Perfect end to the perfect show.
