I was blown away by the visuals of this show. It’s very nicely presented. I like most of the acting and the story is engaging. Historically very interesting as well.

A highly effective ending. I feel fulfilled and I’d watch this series again.

7 and 8 kind of merged together for me. Both very good though. Maybe I’m just too invested in the story to notice much else at this point, so not much to say.

Adding a natural disaster to the mix is wild. Is this still based on reality? I need to read the actual account, this is fascinating. The effects look really great too!

Oh man. Too much. I’m fully immersed.

Shōgun (2024)

S01 E03 · Tomorrow Is Tomorrow
Not as good as the previous episode, but it’s keeping my attention. Excellent scenes that are really well-written.

It’s Japanuary over on Letterboxd: https://boxd.it/BpjXg I figured I’d add a TV show to my month of Japanese viewing. I’m delighted by the visuals, intrigued by the characters, and immersed in the history. So far, so good.

Some hilarious moments. Not as rofl-inducing as it was when I was in high school watching this late at night, but it still works.

“That’s a light switch… of total devastation!” Sometimes it’s late at night and you want to re-experience the comedy that had you rolling on the floor back in high school / college. 3 hams had me on the floor again. Still hilarious.

Travel to Pakistan to bring excitement back to the show. Some great one-liners n this one and Kamala is really settling into a groove. I’m here for it.

Always heard about this show, but never gave it a chance. Pretty funny for a pilot. The humor is *very* 2005. They even mention the year. Nice but of interplay between racism and homophobia. The characters are already well established.

I love how Conan makes a mockery of everything and encourages others to make a mockery of him. Nothing he does is malicious—he is genuinely making connections to people through humor and it’s great. Are some of these bits overly scripted and groan-inducing, sure. But there is plenty of gold in the

S01 E07 · He's Gotta Have It
The virginity speech is palpably embarrassing. Love how they brought OJ into it.

S02 E05 · Science/Fiction
Really good. I love how they push the limits of time travel. Lots of strong implications from this one.

Loki (2021)

S01 E05 · Journey Into Mystery
This one gets a little absurd, with alligator Loki and portals and whatnot, but I really like the brawl and the discussions equally. Nice portrayal.

S01 E04 · The Nexus Event
Well that’s certainly a twist! Not sure if I like it, though. Still really well filmed—things are just getting too complicated though.

Sylvie brings in some interesting implications. I like all of the characters very much so far.

WandaVision (2021)

S01 E06 · All-New Halloween Spooktacular!
I really like this episode. Good stuff going on both in and out of the tv show paradigm. Halloween is always great—love the costumes and humor of Pietro. Some really good random asides, like where are all the kids from.

Arnold (2023)

S01 E03 · Part 3: American
Another excellent episode. I really like how it doesn’t dwell on the idea of Arnold being destined for greatness, but instead emphasizes the amount of work and help he needed to get to where he is—and also the frailty he feels as an imperfect aging man.

I’m glad they kept this to three episodes, as it slowed them to explore three facets of Arnold’s life with slightly different emphasis for each one. The first was mostly about his determination, the second about his good fortune, and the third about his shortcomings. In all three, though, he is full

Really stellar writing in both seasons. Nick Hornby knows how to craft witty dialogue. The first season has better zingers, the second season has a better character arc. I really like the short length of the episodes and the way the characters report what happened unseen during the week before.
