This episode had its up and downs but the ups were really good.

Kind of forgot there was even a murder to solve this episode, but there were a few scenes that made me genuinely sad, so I'm kind of torn on whether it's a good or bad thing that the plot progression is so slow here.

I’m starting to believe that this wasn’t supposed to be part of True Detective and HBO decided that it was at last minute and added several references to the first season. It definitely lacks Nic Pizzolatto’s brilliant ability to write dialogue, here it feels odd.

It’s super consistent from episode to episode. It’s really starting to ramp up though and the quality of this episode took a huge jump up from the last. It’s beginning to feel like this could be the second best season of this show if it continues the way it’s going.

I'll admit that the investigation has sort of stalled out, but I'm here for insanely drunk Jodie Foster and Navarro trying to fight 4 dudes at once.
