Most of the time, TOS hits and ages really well.
Rarely, TOS ages terribly and has an episode that by today's standards is problematic, racist, and uncomfortably idolising of the United States, this one of those rare times.
It was a run-of-the-mill two tribes fighting episode but then it was all of a sudden about nationalism.
Hearing Kirk start reciting “We the People..” was not what I expected today.
girl what 💀
(star only bc the fights were actually choreographed as fights? like they actually seemed to be following some kind of strategy or actual fighting moves. and also bc i find the speech at the end very funny knowing shatner’s canadian)
how does the federation function if kirk is the only good captain
oh brother, how racist can one episode get
sick ass drawing of spock in the bible though
Kirk recites the pledge of allegiance AND the constitution then looks wistfully at the American flag while the fanfare music plays 💀 i could forgive the patriotism if this was actually good though, but unfortunately it was also boring asf
Gene, that plot twist makes no sense. How did a flag and U.S. documents like the Declaration of Independence get to this planet? At least the other episodes this season that showed a world transformed by old Earth texts gave an explanation for how they got there. This is just lazy writing.

ME: Why are the ratings for this episode so low? Sure, it's a little hokey and rehashes some plots from previous episodes, but overall I'm having a good time--
*FINAL THIRD HAPPENS*
ME: ........nevermind.
